Goodwood Revival 2007
HomeA group of us had been talking about going to England for the Revival for years… it was on our “to do” list! We all would probably still be reading the articles and talking about going if it had not been for the efforts of our 100 S customers, Robert Griffin. He was the one who got on the phone, used his UK connections and ordered the tickets in the fall of 2006. Soon after, the search for hotel rooms began and he was able to line up something within half an hour for everyone. This is key, as the traffic entering and leaving the facility is very well organized but can test one’s patience!
Record attendance of 116,000 over the three days set a new record for the event which encourages period, quite formal dress (read mandatory or you will feel like an idiot)…. Simply amazing vintage vignettes are everywhere you turn – truly a step back in time.
Cars that race are cream of the crop and by invitation only to this 15 race event – do whatever to get into the competition paddock. You have never seen so many rare, unusual and famous cars in one spot ever – quite a few have hired drivers and it is very real racing! Times are faster than ever due to modern improvements as everyone wants to win.
New in 2007 was an airplane concours for vintage planes which take over the old airfield used during the war as a base for Spitfire squadrons. Warbirds fill the skies daily doing fly-overs and stunts. An impressive number of very period WWII encampments surround the field.
This race circuit is part of the Earl of March’s extensive property and was one of the premier circuits in England until it closed in 1967. The Goodwood Revival began in 1998 after he restored the track to capture the feel of the 1960’s ~ and that he has done beyond belief!
It is hard to understand the Goodwood Revival until you experience it firsthand – enjoy some of our favorite photos and be inspired to make the trip!
